Overview

Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world, rising to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level. Located in northern Tanzania near the Kenya border, Kilimanjaro is one of the most famous trekking destinations on Earth.

The mountain is part of the Kilimanjaro National Park and is composed of three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. The summit, known as Uhuru Peak, sits on the Kibo crater and offers breathtaking views above the clouds.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a unique adventure that takes trekkers through several ecological zones including rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and finally the arctic summit zone. Each zone provides stunning scenery and diverse wildlife.

Several climbing routes lead to the summit, including the popular Machame Route, Marangu Route, Lemosho Route, and Rongai Route. Most climbs take between 5 and 9 days depending on the route and acclimatization schedule.
