Day by Day
Arrival in Arusha
AFTERNOON
You are met at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred directly to your lodge in Arusha, where the pace of arrival is managed with care. A cold drink on the terrace, a warm welcome, and the gradual sense that the city is already behind you. The lodge is comfortable and quiet, an ideal place to make the transition from travel to journey.
EVENING
Dinner at the lodge is an unhurried introduction to East African hospitality. Your guide may join you briefly to outline tomorrow's early flight and set expectations for the days ahead. Tonight, simply rest.
Accommodation Options
Fly to the Northern Serengeti
MORNING
An early departure to Arusha Airport, where a light aircraft lifts you north over the highlands and into the endless canvas of the Serengeti. The flight is low enough to appreciate the scale of the landscape below --- the kopjes casting early shadows across the plain, the distant thread of the Mara River catching the morning light. You land at Kogatende airstrip and your guide is already there, vehicle loaded and ready.
AFTERNOON
There is no gradual introduction to the Northern Serengeti; it simply begins. The afternoon game drive reaches the Mara River within the hour, and the scene there is everything you imagined and considerably more. The herds are moving, the crossing points are active, and the crocodiles are waiting with cold patience in the shallows. Your guide positions the vehicle downwind and at the optimal angle, and then the waiting begins --- the kind of waiting that never feels like waiting.
EVENING
Camp welcomes you back with the warmth of a fire and the kind of quiet that only the bush provides. Sundowners are served on the deck as the last light leaves the sky. Two nights here. More than enough. Exactly enough. Optional: Hot Air Balloon Safari --- A pre-dawn ascent over the Northern Serengeti plains, floating silently above the migration herds. After landing, a champagne bush breakfast in the field. USD 500 per person.

Full Day in the Northern Serengeti
MORNING
Dawn finds you already in the vehicle, moving through the pre-light silence toward the river. This is the hour the big cats prefer, and the northern Serengeti delivers accordingly. A cheetah family --- a mother and three adolescent cubs --- moves through the grass parallel to the road with complete ease. Lions are finishing a night's work. The vultures are already circling, marking locations on the horizon that your guide notes quietly in his field journal.
AFTERNOON
The afternoon returns to the river. The crossings rarely follow a timetable, but your guide has learned to read the mass of the herd --- the direction it faces, the density of its leading edge, the particular restlessness that precedes a surge. You wait at a crossing point as thousands of wildebeest press against the far bank, the tension building, until the first animal commits to the water and the rest pour in behind it. The crossing is over in minutes. It takes your breath away each time.
EVENING
Dinner under the stars, with the sounds of the night around the camp perimeter. Your guide describes the crossing points by name --- the ones with shallow approaches, the ones the crocodiles favour, the ones where the herds tend to turn back at the last moment. There is more to the river than it appears. Optional: Hot Air Balloon Safari --- A pre-dawn ascent over the plains, drifting silently above the migration, followed by champagne breakfast in the bush. USD 500 per person.

Second Full Day in the Northern Serengeti
MORNING
The fourth day has a different quality. You know the landscape now --- the particular stand of acacias where the lions rest after a kill, the lugga where the hippos gather in a specific afternoon hour, the kopje that catches the sunrise in a way that stops the eye. Your guide takes you somewhere new this morning: deeper into the northern corridors, away from the river, to explore the ecosystem's quieter corners. Bat-eared foxes outside their den. A martial eagle on a high branch. A lilac-breasted roller that lands on the mirror of the vehicle bonnet.
AFTERNOON
One last long afternoon at the Mara River. Today the herds cross twice --- once in the mid-afternoon heat, once in the golden hour before sunset. You watch both, side by side in the vehicle, aware that this is the last time you will see this particular thing together for a very long time. Your guide says nothing during the crossing. He has learned when silence is the greater gift.
EVENING
A farewell dinner under the same sky that has been above you for four nights. The cook has prepared something special for the last evening. The fire is built higher than usual. Tomorrow the flight returns you to Arusha, and the world begins again.

Fly Out to Arusha
MORNING
A final cup of coffee as the bush comes alive around the camp, and then a departure to Kogatende airstrip for the return flight to Arusha. The aircraft banks over the river on its way south, and you watch the crossing points grow small below. From the air, the scale of the migration becomes clear in a way that is impossible to grasp on the ground --- the herds stretching from horizon to horizon, moving in their millions. Then the highlands close in, and Arusha appears, and the journey is over.
