The Trekking Experience

The trek itself is physically engaging, often requiring a hike through steep, forested terrain. Depending on where the chimpanzees are feeding, the trek can take anywhere from one to four hours.

Comfortable hiking shoes and a reasonable level of fitness are recommended — but the reward is extraordinary.

The best time for chimpanzee trekking is during the dry seasons:

- Mid-December to February

During these periods, trails are firmer and chimpanzees tend to stay at lower, more accessible elevations.
