Dear Partners and Travellers, Tanzania has announced a new entry requirement that affects all upcoming safaris. Here is what you need to know so your journey stays smooth from the moment you land.
Effective from 1 October 2026
All qualifying visitors to mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar must hold inbound travel insurance.
Who is affected
Who needs it?
All visitors entering mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Exempt from the requirement
- Residents of Tanzania
- Residents of EAC and SADC Partner States
- Diplomats
- Transit passengers
- Foreign nationals holding a work or residence permit
Premiums
What does it cost?
- Adults: US$44 per person
- Children, 3 17 yrs: 50% off adult premium
- Infants, 0 2 yrs: Free, no charge
- Groups of 10+: 10% off adult premiums
Validity
How long is it valid?
Cover takes effect on arrival and remains valid for up to 92 days, with multiple entries permitted. Ideal for pairing a mainland safari with a Zanzibar beach escape.

- Emergency medical expenses up to US$50,000
- Medical evacuation and repatriation
- Loss of or damage to checked luggage
Purchasing
Where do I get it?
Cover can be purchased online before travel using Visa or Mastercard for mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. It can also be arranged on arrival at the designated NIC and NMB counters at entry points. We recommend buying online before departure to avoid queues after a long flight.
